(Wednesday, April 1, 1970, 7:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. British Summer Time; during sessions for Let It Be) — Ringo Starr was the only Beatle present tonight as American producer Phil Spector supervised choral overdubs on three of the band’s tracks for Let It Be, the twelfth and, what would turn out to be, final studio album by the rock group.

Starr played drums on each of the three songs — “Across The Universe,” “The Long And Winding Road” and “I Me Mine” — alongside the orchestra.
In addition to Starr, there were 18 violins, four violas, four cellos, one harp, three trumpets, three trombones, two guitarists and 14 singers.

On the following day, the final stereo mixes and edits were made for the songs, after which the Let It Be album was complete (for release on May 8, 1970).

Just 8 days later on Apr. 10, 1970, Paul McCartney issued a press release that stated he was no longer working with the group, which would be widely interpreted as an announcement of the band’s split.
