(Thursday, July 5, 1900, approximately 8:45 p.m. local time) — Former Representative William J. Bryan of Nebraska was nominated President of the United States tonight at the 1900 Democratic National Convention meeting at Convention Hall in Kansas City.

Bryan, who was the party’s standard bearer in 1896, was unanimously nominated by the 936 delegates.

Former Vice President Adlai E. Stevenson of Illinois, who served under President Grover Cleveland (1983-1897), was nominated to serve another term as vice president on the following day, July 6, 1900, defeating former Senator David B. Hill of New York 599.5 to 200 on the first ballot (before shifts).

The Bryan-Stevenson Democratic ticket would face the Republican ticket of incumbent President William McKinley and New York Governor Theodore Roosevelt (for vice president) in the 1900 United States presidential election.
