(Friday, September 27, 1940, 1:00 Central European Summer Time; during World War II) — The Tripartite Pact, an agreement creating a defensive military alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan was signed today in Berlin.

The treaty would call upon all three nations to unite against any aggressor who had violated the sovereignty of any of the three nations, not including nations that were already engaged in war with any of the three nations.

The Tripartite Pact was signed with the intention to force the United States to remain isolationist and out of the war, which had already been waging for an extended amount of time in Europe, northern and eastern Africa and China.
