Before Roosevelt was sworn in, at 12:07 p.m. EST, Henry A. Wallace, 52, of Iowa was inaugurated as the 33rd vice president of the United States.

Outgoing Vice President John Nance Garner had opposed Roosevelt’s nomination for a third term, so the Democrats chose a new vice presidential nominee.
