(Saturday, January 30, 1971) — John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, the debut solo studio album by John Lennon and his first since the public break-up of The Beatles, peaked at #6 on today’s Billboard Top LP’s chart for one week.
Co-produced by Lennon, his wife, Yoko Ono, and Phil Spector, the album contains a largely raw production sound with songs heavily influenced by Lennon’s then-recent primal scream therapy. Its lyrics reflect Lennon’s personal issues and includes themes of child-parent abandonment and psychological suffering.
In 2012, Rolling Stone magazine placed the album 23rd on the magazine’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
