(Tuesday, February 23, 1971; during sessions for Ram) — Former Beatle Paul McCartney today recorded “Great Cock And Seagull Race” at A&R Studios in New York City, during sessions for Ram, his second solo album.

The song, which is also known as “Blues,” did not appear on the original release of Ram on May 17, 1971. But a 2:36 version of the track was mixed July 13, 1971, and released in 2012 as part of a deluxe version of the Ram album.

A 4:02 version of the track was mixed Dec. 17, 1971, and released in 2018 as a deluxe version of his Wild Life album (officially credited to McCartney’s band, Wings).

Following today’s session in New York, work on Ram moved to Sound Recorders Studio in Los Angeles (starting Mar. 1, 1971).
