(Wednesday, April 27, 2011; during the 2011 Super Outbreak) — Today was the most active day of a four-day period (Apr. 25-28, 2011) known as 2011 Super Outbreak in which a record outbreak of 360 tornadoes carved a devastating path through parts of 21 states from Texas to New York and on into Canada, hitting Southern states hardest.
Over the 348 fatalities that were reported, mostly in Alabama, over the four-day period, 316 were recorded today (Apr. 27, 2011) — the most tornado-related fatalities in the United States in a single day since the Tri-State Tornado on Mar. 18, 1925 (when at least 747 people were killed).
