(Tuesday, July 10, 1951, 11 a.m. Korean Daylight Time; during the Korean War) — Protracted armistice negotiations to end of the year-long Korean War began today at Kaesong, a North Korean city in North Hwanghae Province near the South Korean border.

The two primary negotiators were Chief of Army Staff General Nam Il, a North Korean deputy premier, and United States Vice Admiral Charles Turner Joy.

Combat continued while the belligerents dragged out negotiations for two long years.
