(Saturday, July 23, 2011, 3:54 p.m. BST) — Amy Winehouse, a singer and songwriter who defined the British neo-soul movement, was found dead this afternoon after two ambulances were called to her home in Camden, London. She was 27.
A coroner’s inquest said Winehouse’s blood alcohol content was more than five times the legal drink-drive limit at the time of her death and “the unintended consequences of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden death.”

Winehouse had been struggling with substance abuse the previous few years, canceling shows and effectively putting her career on hold.
In 2008 she became the first British singer to win five Grammy Awards, including best new artist, and record and song of the year for the single “Rehab.”
