(Wednesday, August 11, 1971) — On his final full day in his native England, former Beatle John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, took part in a demonstration march today in London through the streets of Soho and Mayfair that was simultaneously demonstrating against British policy in Northern Ireland and sentences handed down recently in the Oz magazine obscenity trial.

Late the next day, on August 12, 1971, the couple flew to New York, arriving in the early morning hours of Aug. 13, 1971. Lennon would never return to his native England during his lifetime.
