Video: 'THE DICK CAVETT SHOW - John Lennon and Yoko Ono 9-8-1971)'

(Wednesday, September 8, 1971, beginning around 6:00 p.m. EDT) — John Lennon said tonight his second wife, Yoko Ono, didn’t break up the British rock group The Beatles, but if she had “she should get credit for all the nice music we’ve all made since we broke up.”

Lennon appeared with his wife in a two-hour taping with television interviewer Dick Cavett at Studio 15 at the ABC Television Studios in New York. Ninety minutes of the conversation would be shown on Cavett’s late-night show on Sept. 21, 1971.

After taping their interview, John & Yoko visited Mr. Waffles ice cream parlor in Greenwich Village where they filmed yet another “Streetwalker” skit for their 1972 Imagine TV special.

Also around this time (circa Friday, September 10, 1971), the Lennons filmed Clock as part of an installation in Yoko’s upcoming This Is Not Here exhibition in Syracuse, New York. For the premise, a camera was set up, directed at a clock on the dresser in the Lennons’ suite at the St. Regis Hotel in New York, where it stayed for the next hour.

For the soundtrack to the film, Lennon worked his way through some of his favorite oldies and a new composition as well, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar.
