(Thursday, October 19, 1972) — Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his British–American rock band, Wings, today began recording “Live and Let Die” at AIR Studios in London, produced as the title song for the next James Bond feature film starring Roger Moore.

Overdubs for the track would be recorded on the following day, on Oct. 20, 1972, at AIR Studios and it would be mixed on Oct. 21, 1972, also at AIR Studios, and then released as a single in the UK on June 1, 1973 (June 18, 1973, in the U.S.).

The project reunited McCartney with former Beatles producer George Martin, who produced the song and arranged the orchestra.

It was also the first rock song to open a Bond film, which was released in the United States on June 27, 1973, ahead of the world premiere at Odeon Leicester Square in London on July 6, 1973.
