(Tuesday, January 22, 1963, 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. GMT) — The Beatles recorded their debut appearance on the BBC Light Programme Saturday Club today at Playhouse Theatre in London, hosted by Brian Matthew.

The rock music band from Liverpool, England, began rehearsing for their appearance at 2:30 p.m., and recorded a five-song session from 4:00-5:00 p.m. GMT, including “Some Other Guy,” “Love Me Do,” “Please Please Me,” “Keep Your Hands Off My Baby” and “Beautiful Dreamer.”

The two-hour program was broadcast on Jan. 26, 1963, at 10:00 a.m.

This was The Beatles’ first appearance at the Playhouse Theatre, on Northumberland Avenue, London. In all, they recorded 13 sessions at the theatre – more than at any other location – between this day and Jan. 7, 1964.
