(Saturday, August 4, 1973, 7:00 p.m.-3:00 a.m. EDT; during recording sessions for Mind Games) — Ex-Beatle John Lennon continued recording sessions for Mind Games, his fourth studio solo album, today at the Record Plant in New York City.

Lennon tracked three songs on this fourth day of sessions, including the title track (take 2 of 7 attempts was the master), “Out the Blue” and a re-make of “Rock and Roll People.”

Overdubs for the album would be recorded starting Aug. 10, 1973 (overdubs for “Mind Games” were specifically recorded on Aug. 20 and “Out The Blue” on Sept. 3, 1973), and mixing would begin on Aug. 21, 1973 (“Out The Blue” was mixed on Sept. 11, 1973 and “Mind Games” was mixed on Sept. 16, 1973).

The album, which was released in the U.S. on Oct. 29, 1973, and in the UK on Nov. 16, 1973 was Lennon’s first self-produced recording without help from Phil Spector.
