Video: 'Interview with The Beatles for swedish radio [Part 1]'

(Friday, August 23, 1963) — On the the fifth of The Beatles’ six consecutive dates in the English seaside town of Bournemouth, the rock music band The Beatles were interviewed tonight by Klas Burling at Gaumont Cinema for broadcast on Swedish radio.

The interview was probably conducted between the band’s two performances as they ate dinner.

At the time of this interview, the Beatles were touring England while taking a short break from recording new tracks for their upcoming second LP entitled With The Beatles.

This early Beatles interview becomes especially interesting as Paul and John begin to talk about the writing of their two most recent singles.

On the day this interview was recorded, the band’s single “She Loves You” was released in Britain.

During their Aug. 19-24, 1963, residency in Bournemouth, The Beatles shot the cover photo for their second LP and continued to play with their portable tape recorder.

Feeling under the weather one day, George was visited by a doctor who prescribed a tonic and bed rest. To keep himself occupied, he decided to try writing a song, which turned out to be “Don’t Bother Me,” which would formally be recorded by the band on Sept. 11, 1963.
