The interviews were mostly conducted at the Terrace Room of the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

An ABC reporter also interviewed the quartet, reading to them from that morning’s review of their Ed Sullivan debut from New York Times music critic Theodore Strongin: “He said you had ‘unresolved leading tones, a false modal frame, ending up as a plain diatonic.’ ” John Lennon’s reply: “Well, we’re gonna see a doctor about that.”

Paul McCartney points out that it’s merely a rehash of William Mann’s London Times article about “Aeolian cadences” and such.

Ringo Starr gives a fatalistic account of the origin of their haircut: “It just happened, y’know. Just wake up one day, and there you are!”

In an interview with a CBS reporter, they are asked what the name “Beatles” means. John replies, “That’s just a name. Y’know, like ‘shoe.’ ” “We could have been called ‘the Shoes’ for all you know,” adds Paul.

Floundering for relevant questions, the reporter asks what they think of Britain’s Keeler-Profumo political sex scandal. “It’s great, yeah,” says George Harrison cheerfully.

In the evening The Beatles visited New York nightclubs, returning to the Plaza at 4:00 a.m.
