(Friday, May 1, 1964, 6:30-9:30 p.m. BST) — The Beatles recorded a third editiion of the BBC Light Programme From Us To You today at the BBC Paris Studio in London, for airing on May 18, 1964, at 10 a.m. when the group was scheduled to be on holiday.

The Beatles performed eight songs: “I Saw Her Standing There,” “Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!,” “Forgot To Remember To Forget,” “You Can’t Do That,” “Sure To Fall (In Love With You),” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Matchbox” and “Honey Don’t.”

John Lennon performed lead vocals on the last song; for the EMI recording, made later in 1964, Ringo Starr took the lead.

They also twice sang Whit Monday To You, an off-the-cuff song to the tune of Happy Birthday. The theme tune was taken from the Feb. 28, 1964, edition.

Having completed the filming of their first feature film A Hard Day’s Night, The Beatles enjoyed holidays for much of May 1964.

On May 2, 1964, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and their girlfriends departed London for the Virgin Islands, while John Lennon, his wife, Cynthia, George Harrison and his girlfriend departed London for Tahiti via Hawaii.
