(Thursday, May 21, 1964) — “Sie Liebt Dich,” a German language version of the smash hit “She Loves You,” and “I’ll Get You” by The Beatles were released today in the U.S. as a single on the Swan label.

Swan, a small Philadelphia-based record label mainly known for novelty records, obtained the U.S. rights to “She Loves You” in September 1963. After the Beatles recorded “Sie Liebt Dich,” Swan argued they likewise held the rights to that song.

Capitol Records included “Komm, gib mir deine Hand,” a German-language version of “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” as the closing track on the Beatles’ North American album Something New on July 20, 1964.

Note: Several books claim The Beatles’ German single was released in West Germany on March 5, 1964, even though the songs were not mixed for mono and stereo until March 10 and March 12, respectively.

Both tracks entered the German charts in April 1964.
