(Saturday, May 25, 1974) — “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley & His Comets peaked at #39 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week, 19 years after hitting #1 on magazine’s Best Sellers in Stores chart for eight weeks.

The song’s reappearance on the pop charts followed its use as the theme for the 1973 movie American Graffiti and a re-recorded version by Haley used as the opening theme for the TV series Happy Days during its first two seasons (1974-1975).

The original track was recorded Apr. 12, 1954, at Pythian Temple studios, 135 West 70th Street, New York City.
