(Saturday, May 30, 1964) — The Beatles held a press conference today at the NEMS Enterprises Ltd offices at Sutherland House, 5-6 Argyll Street, London, their first public appearance as a foursome since leaving for a rare, lengthy holiday on May 2, 1964.

The event, chiefly for foreign reporters (they would meet the British press the following day), was organized by Derek Taylor, The Beatles’ press officer – his first such event since recently being appointed to the role by manager Brian Epstein.

Taylor was taking a risk, having arranged and announced the event prior to securing the involvement of the band.
