(Thursday, June 4, 1964, flight departed London at 11:25 a.m. BST) — The Beatles (minus drummer Ringo Starr who stayed in London with tonsillitis and pharyngitis and was temporarily replaced by session drummer Jimmy Nicol) were driven by their chauffeur, Bill Corbett, to London Airport this morning to catch a flight to Copenhagen to begin the band’s 1964 world tour tonight at KB Hallen.

More than 6,000 fans awaited their arrival in Copenhagen, and Danish police had to quell crowds of around 10,000 who brought the city centre to a standstill.

As they checked in to the Royal Hotel fans attempted to storm the doors.

The group rehearsed their set in the afternoon, and assistant Mal Evans taped the setlist to their guitars to help them remember the running order.

They were also visited by the British ambassador to Denmark before tonight’s two shows.

The Beatles performed two shows at the KB Hallen venue, scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Central European Time, with 4,400 fans seeing each performance.
