German version of ‘She Loves You’ by The Beatles debuts, peaks at #97 in USA 60 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Jun 27 1964)

(Saturday, June 27, 1964) — “Sie Liebt Dich (She Loves You)” by The Beatles debuted and peaked at #97 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week, the group’s 19th appearance on the chart since Jan. 18, 1964.

Swan, a small Philadelphia-based record label mainly known for novelty records, obtained the U.S. rights to “She Loves You” in September 1963. After the Beatles recorded “Sie Liebt Dich,” Swan argued they likewise held the rights to that song.

Capitol Records included “Komm, gib mir deine Hand,” a German-language version of “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” as the closing track on the Beatles’ North American album Something New on July 20, 1964.
