(Thursday, August 14, 2014, approximately 9:00 p.m. PDT; during Out There tour) — Paul McCartney delivered a stirring performance tonight at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park, the site of The Beatles’ last live show on Thursday, Aug. 29, 1966, serving as a fitting sendoff for the iconic venue.

McCartney’s setlist, spanning nearly three hours and 40 songs, showcased his enduring talent at 72.

The former Beatle looked and sounded as vibrant as ever, delighting the 50,000-strong crowd with classics from The Beatles and Wings.

His rendition of “Long Tall Sally,” during one of two encores, was particularly poignant, as it was the final song The Beatles performed at Candlestick nearly five decades ago.

In a heartfelt moment, McCartney led the crowd of 53,477 in a singalong to “Hey Jude,” where he bid a musical “goodbye to Candlestick.”

The audience, composed mostly of baby boomers, was treated to a mix of timeless hits like “Eight Days a Week,” “Let It Be,” and “Band on the Run,” as well as newer tracks from McCartney’s 2013 album New.

Alternating between bass, piano, and guitar, McCartney’s performance left no one disappointed, fulfilling his promise to “close Candlestick Park down in style.”

As the final notes of “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight,” and “The End” echoed through the stadium, it was clear that McCartney had given Candlestick Park a sendoff to remember.

Demolition of the stadium would be completed in September 2015.
