(Friday August 16, 1974, during sessions for Walls and Bridges) — Sessions for John Lennon’s fifth studio album, Walls and Bridges, continued today at Record Plant East at 321 West 44th Street in New York City, and over the course of the week, a quintet of brass players, dubbed the “Little Big Horns” by John, added their contributions to the album.

The Little Big Horns included: Ron Aprea (alto saxophone), Bobby Keys (tenor saxophone), Frank Vicari (tenor saxophone), Howard Johnson (baritone saxophone), Steve Madaio (trumpet).

Their work appeared on the following tracks: “Going Down On Love,” “What You Got,” “Scared,” “Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox),” “Steel and Glass,” “Beef Jerky,” “Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down and Out),” “Bless You,” and “Move Over Ms. L,” and Keys (without the other four) played tenor saxophone on “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night.”

Strings would be added to at least three of the tracks on Aug. 22, 1974: “Scared,” “Steel and Glass” and “Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down and Out).”

“Move Over Ms. L,” however, would be cut from the album at the last minute and released on as the B-side to Lennon’s single, “Stand By Me.”
