(Thursday, August 20, 1964, shows scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. PDT) — The Beatles performed two shows today at the Las Vegas Convention Center, each attended by 8,000 fans.

Between the two shows, the Los Angeles Police Department received a bomb threat but determined that canceling the second performance would pose a greater risk of violence from disappointed fans.

A Reuters film crew captured over a minute of footage from one of the concerts, showing fans arriving and about half of the opening number, “Twist and Shout,” with distorted but natural sound.

After the second concert, The Beatles were advised to avoid casinos due to police concerns that underage fans might be tempted to follow them.
