Paul McCartney and Wings continue recording ‘One Hand Clapping’ live-in-studio album in London 50 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Aug 28 1974)

(Wednesday, August 28, 1974, during sessions for One Hand Clapping) — Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his British–American rock band Wings resumed recording sessions today for their live-in-studio album, One Hand Clapping, at Abbey Road Studios in London.

13 tracks were attempted on this third day, including: “Tomorrow,” “Suicide,” “Let’s Love,” “Sitting At The Piano,” “All Of You,” “I’ll Give You A Ring,” “Baby Face,” “The Long And Winding Road,” “Lady Madonna,” “Power Cut,” “Let It Be,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” and “Love My Baby.”

Only one of the tracks would receive overdubs at a later date: “Baby Face.”

The project, envisioned as a “rockumentary,” was directed by David Litchfield and featured live performances of McCartney, Wings, and Beatles hits, along with a few covers.

The recording sessions, set to span over four days, were part of a film project capturing the band in a studio setting. The film would include interviews with the band members and live studio performances aimed at creating a potential live album.

Although the TV sales brochure was prepared, both the film and the album remained unreleased at the time.

Over the years, bootleg copies surfaced, and some tracks were included in special editions of other McCartney and Wings albums.

The film “One Hand Clapping” was officially released on November 2, 2010, as part of the box set reissue of “Band on the Run,” marking the debut release in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

Fans eagerly anticipate the album’s release, scheduled for June 14, 2024, almost fifty years after the initial recording sessions.
