(Sunday, September 6, 1964, two shows were scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. EDT — The Beatles appeared roughly 80-90 minutes later following four opening acts; during The Beatles’ 1964 North American tour) — The Beatles performed the first of two shows for 15,000 fans (each show) today at Olympia Stadium in Detroit on the 14th stop of the band’s first full first full North American tour.

The Beatles delivered their standard 12-song set, which they maintained throughout most of the U.S. tour. The performance included: “Twist and Shout,” “You Can’t Do That,” “All My Loving,” “She Loves You,” “Things We Said Today,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “If I Fell,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Boys,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “Long Tall Sally.”

Just after midnight, a flight from Chicago brought the Beatles to the Motor City that had once vowed to stamp them out.

After sleeping in at the Whittier Hotel, they traveled to Olympia Stadium for a pair of concerts.

After the shows, they stayed another night at the Whittier Hotel.

Following their departure the sheets they slept on were purchased by a radio station and cut into small squares, which were then sold to fans.
