(Sunday, September 13, 1964, The Beatles appeared on stage at approximately 5:15 p.m. and again at 9:50 p.m. EDT; during The Beatles’ 1964 North American tour) — The Beatles made their only visit to Baltimore today, performing two sold-out shows at the Civic Center to a combined audience of 28,000 fans.
The Fab Four were supported by The Bill Black Combo, The Exciters, Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry, and Jackie DeShannon.
They delivered their standard 12-song set, including hits like “Twist And Shout,” “She Loves You,” and “A Hard Day’s Night.”
At a press conference between shows, George Harrison famously quipped, “How does it feel to be put on?” when asked about the band’s influence.
John Lennon noted that groups donning Beatle wigs weren’t truly imitating them, as “we don’t wear Beatle wigs.”
Harrison also shared that the unique sound of his guitar solo on “Till There Was You” came from using nylon strings on a Spanish guitar.

Individual interviews followed the press conference, conducted by an unidentified reporter and later included on the 1965 Talk Album—Ed Rudy with New U.S. Tour LP.
As was Rudy’s custom, he dubbed his own voice for the questions, resulting in the inaccurate statement, “George, your sister, Lucille, is an American citizen.”
In these interviews, George discussed his girlfriend Pattie, his fear of flying, homesickness, and calling his parents.
Paul McCartney talked about fan reactions, their next film, and his girlfriend, Jane.
John mentioned uncertainty about their next U.S. visit, saying, “That’s all arranged over our heads.”
Following their second performance, The Beatles stayed at the Holiday Inn, where police on horseback kept eager fans at bay.
