(Wednesday, September 18, 1974, 3:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. PDT) — Horn overdubs for Ringo Starr’s “No No Song” and “(It’s All Da-Da-Down To) Goodnight Vienna,” written by fellow ex-Beatle John Lennon, were recorded tonight at Sunset Sound in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, for the former Beatle’s second rock solo studio album, Goodnight Vienna.

In the “No No Song,” written by Hoyt Axton and David Jackson, the narrator meets a woman from Colombia who offers him marijuana; a woman from Mallorca, Spain, who offers him cocaine; and a man from Nashville, Tennessee, who offers him moonshine whiskey.

The narrator declines all of them, saying that they are bad for his health. Harry Nilsson provides backing vocals.

“(It’s All Down to) Goodnight Vienna,” with the backing tracks recorded Aug. 6, 1974, features Lennon on opening count-in and piano, and Billy Preston on clavinet; and the reprise features Lennon’s intro, “OK, with gusto, boys, with gusto!”

Goodnight Vienna would be released Nov. 15, 1974, in the UK (Nov. 18, 1974, in the U.S.).
