(Friday, September 18, 1964, evening CDT; during The Beatles’ 1964 North American tour) — The Beatles brought their electrifying presence to Dallas Memorial Auditorium tonight, performing for a sold-out crowd of 10,000 fans despite a bomb scare that briefly delayed the concert.

The event marked the 24th stop on their first full North American tour, with Beatlemania at its peak across the continent.

The show, originally scheduled to begin earlier in the evening, was delayed when a telephoned bomb threat prompted a thorough search of the venue.

Although no explosives were found, security teams did discover several eager fans hiding under the stage and in washrooms, desperate to get closer to the Fab Four. The stage itself was set three times higher than usual to accommodate the intense crowd and security concerns.

Once the all-clear was given, The Beatles took the stage and delivered a high-energy 30-minute set featuring 12 of their biggest hits.

The setlist included fan favorites such as “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” The audience’s screams were deafening, making it nearly impossible for the band to hear themselves, yet they powered through with their signature charm and enthusiasm.

The concert was a resounding success, with tickets selling out within a single day of their release. The Beatles’ brief but impactful performance left the Dallas crowd in a frenzy, further cementing their status as global superstars.

Following the concert, The Beatles were swiftly escorted to Dallas Love Field, where their chartered plane departed at 11:08 p.m. CDT. They headed to a ranch in Missouri for a well-deserved day off after the intense show.

During the flight, as the clock ticked into the early hours of September 19, Paul McCartney led the band and their entourage in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” for their manager, Brian Epstein, who turned 30.

The celebration included the presentation of gifts such as glassware and a vintage telephone, adding a personal touch to the end of a whirlwind day.
