(Saturday, September 21, 1974, evening PDT) — Former Beatle John Lennon continued his promotional tour for his fifth solo studio album, Walls and Bridges (which would be released in five days, first in the U.S.) with a notable appearance on KSAN-FM today in San Francisco.

Speaking with Tom “Big Daddy” Donahue, a pioneer in the free-form radio format, Lennon took a markedly different approach from his high-energy appearance on KHJ-AM in Los Angeles the previous day.

Lennon’s interview with Donahue resembled a relaxed conversation between old friends. The nearly three-hour discussion featured the pair talking at length, interspersed with tracks from Walls and Bridges and selections from Lennon’s contemporaries.

The event highlighted Lennon’s versatility and his ability to engage audiences in various settings, from the dynamic vibes of AM radio to the more intimate and laid-back atmosphere of FM radio.
