(Tuesday, September 30, 1964, 2:30-5:30 p.m. BST; during sessions for Beatles For Sale) — The Beatles pressed forward in the production of their fourth studio album this afternoon, wrapping up work on the track “Every Little Thing” at EMI Studio 2 in London.

The session marked the second consecutive day of recording for the album, with a focus on completing “Every Little Thing,” a track initiated by Paul McCartney in London and later polished with help from John Lennon during the band’s recent North American tour.

Takes 5 through 9 of today’s session were devoted to perfecting the song’s rhythm tracks, laying down drums, bass, and acoustic guitar on one track, with George Harrison’s distinctive twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar on another.

John and Paul performed a vocal duet on the third track, singing in unison during the verses and harmonizing beautifully on the choruses and coda.

The final track was reserved for overdubs, including additional lead guitar from Harrison, piano from McCartney, and a dramatic timpani played by Ringo Starr, adding a powerful touch to the recording.

In addition to The Beatles’ studio work, Ringo Starr found time earlier in the day to reconnect with his roots. He joined a session for his former group, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, lending his percussion talents and possibly contributing to the backing vocals on their track “America.”
