The Beatles tape appearance for American TV show ‘Shindig!’ 60 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Oct 3 1964)

(Saturday, October 3, 1964, afternoon BST) — The Beatles took the stage at Granville Studio this afternoon in London to record an appearance for the American music television show Shindig!.

The British band performed three songs for a select audience of London-based Beatles Fan Club members, delivering energetic renditions of “Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!,” “I’m A Loser,” and “Boys.”

All vocals are live except the three part harmonies in “Kansas City.” The instruments were pre-recorded before the actual show.

Following a day of rehearsals, the Fab Four were joined by other popular acts, including Sandie Shaw, PJ Proby, The Karl Denver Trio, Tommy Quickly, Sounds Incorporated, and Lyn Cornell.

The Beatles also participated in the show’s finale alongside The Karl Denver Trio.

The episode, featuring this special British-themed edition of Shindig!, was broadcast in the United States by ABC on Oct. 7, 1964, but was never aired in Britain.
