(Wednesday, December 5, 1804, during the 1804 presidential campaign) — Democratic-Republican President Thomas Jefferson of Virginia was re-elected President of the United States today, defeating Federalist challenger former U.S. Minister to France Charles C. Pinckney of South Carolina.

Jefferson and his running mate, Governor George Clinton of New York, received 72.8% of the national popular vote. Pinckney and his running mate, former Senator Rufus King of New York, received 27.2%.

The 1804 popular vote results translated into an Electoral College victory of 162-14 for Jefferson-Clinton, who would be sworn in to a four-year term on March 4, 1805.
