(Sunday, December 6, 1964, 5:30 p.m. EDT)Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a Christmas television special about a misfit reindeer and his friends who look for a place that will accept them and produced in stop motion animation by Rankin/Bass, first aired tonight on NBC.

‘Rudolph’ has been telecast every year since 1964, making it the longest running Christmas TV special in history, and one of only four 1960s Christmas specials still being telecast, the other three being A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Frosty the Snowman.
