(Monday, February 15, 1965, 5:30 a.m. PST) — Nat King Cole, the velvet-voiced popular singer, died this morning at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California, of lung cancer (he was a heavy cigarette smoker). Cole was 45 years old.
