Video: 'The Beatles - You're Going To Lose That Girl (Production Acetate)'
(Friday, February 19 1965, 3:30-6:20 p.m. GMT) — The Beatles returned to the recording studio today for the fifth session of their forthcoming album, which would eventually be titled Help!, laying the groundwork for a new composition by John Lennon, “You’re Going to Lose That Girl.”
The session saw the band record the song’s basic track in two takes.
On the initial four-track tape, Lennon handled rhythm guitar, Paul McCartney played bass, and Ringo Starr provided the drumbeat, all recorded onto the first track.
Overdubs followed, including an electric piano part—played by an unidentified musician—and a lead guitar contribution from George Harrison, both of which were later erased.
The three vocalists—Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison—added harmonies on track three, while Lennon double-tracked his lead vocal onto track four.
Production on “You’re Going to Lose That Girl” would continue, with additional overdubs on March 30, as the band presses forward with recording for the highly anticipated follow-up to their 1964 album, Beatles for Sale.
