(Saturday, March 22, 1975) — Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his British-American band Wings completed recording “Medicine Jar” (written by Wings member Jimmy McCulloch and English blues drummer and songwriter Colin Allen) for the group’s next studio album Venus and Mars today at Wally Heider Recording, Studio 3 in Los Angeles.

On playback, McCartney decided the song could use a vocal injection, so new harmony vocals were overdubbed before the track was mixed today.

And with that, recording sessions for Venus and Mars wrapped up, although mixing sessions would continue through March 27, 1975.

After recording Band on the Run as a three-piece with wife Linda McCartney and guitarist Denny Laine, McCartney had recruited guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton to the band in 1974.

Recording sessions for the album took place in London, New Orleans and Los Angeles in November 1974 and early 1975.

During the sessions, personal tensions caused Britton to quit after six months, forcing the band to recruit American drummer Joe English to finish the album.
