(Good Friday, April 5, 1985, 10:50 a.m. EST) — “We Are The World” by USA for Africa, a song and charity single for African famine relief featuring 45 famous recording artists, was simultaneously played today over 8,000 radio stations around the world in a special Good Friday broadcast.

As the song was broadcast, hundreds of people sang along on the steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.
