(Tuesday, April 28, 1925) — The International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts opened before a crowd of 4,000 invited guests today, showcasing the latest in contemporary design and craftsmanship.
The exhibition, located along the Seine in central Paris, will open to the public tomorrow and continue for nearly six months until closing on October 25.
The exposition, known in French as L’Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, is already drawing international attention for its bold, modern aesthetic. The term “Art Deco,” now being used to describe the emerging style, is derived from the shortened French title of the event.
Organizers hope the exposition will further popularize innovative design around the world, blending fine craftsmanship with modern industrial techniques in everything from architecture and furniture to jewelry and fashion.
