(Monday, June 21, 1965; during The Beatles’ 1965 European tour) — Taking a break from their European tour, the Beatles spent a quiet day in the French capital today, enjoying a stroll through the Bois de Boulogne on the city’s western edge.
The British quartet remained in Paris following their two weekend concerts at the Palais des Sports. While they did not perform today, their presence continued to draw attention from fans and the press.

During their stay, members of the group also spoke with local journalists. In one interview conducted by French radio reporter Jacques Ourevitch, the Beatles commented on cultural differences among their audiences in France, Britain, and the United States. They also joked about their police escorts and their so-called “Napoleon-style” haircuts.
John Lennon remarked that “even people who don’t like the Beatles like Ringo,” prompting Ringo Starr to reply that it might be because he’s “ugly, but nice.”
The group is expected to depart Paris Tuesday morning for Lyon, where they are scheduled to perform next.
