(Tuesday, June 22, 1965, approximately 2:30 p.m. CET; during The Beatles’ 1965 European tour) — The Beatles arrived in Lyon this afternoon to scenes of fanfare and flashing cameras as they touched down at Lyon-Bron Airport for the next stop on their European tour.

Flying in from Paris, the British pop sensation was met by an eager crowd and a contingent of local press. The group—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—smiled and waved as they disembarked and were swiftly ushered to the Hotel Royal.

Later in the day, the band held a brief press conference at the hotel, answering questions from French journalists about their music, fame, and ongoing tour. Footage of the arrival and media event was recorded by French broadcaster ORTF for its evening news coverage.

The group is scheduled to perform two evening concerts at the Palais d’Hiver.
