(Sunday, September 12, 1965, 8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) — The Beatles headlined the 18th season premiere of The Ed Sullivan Show tonight with a six-song set taped Aug. 14, 1965, inside CBS Studio 50 at 1697–1699 Broadway, between 53rd and 54th streets, in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York.

The group performed “I Feel Fine,” “I’m Down,” “Act Naturally,” “Ticket to Ride,” “Yesterday” and “Help!” in two segments before an invited studio audience.

The appearance was the Beatles’ latest for Sullivan’s variety program, which first showcased the group in February 1964 and helped ignite Beatlemania across the United States.

While no one knew at the time, tonight’s show would mark their final performance created specifically for Sullivan (the band would later provide promotional films for broadcast).
