Video: 'I Wanna Be Free ~ Davy Jones' (take one of version one remake)
(Friday, December 17, 1965) — Less than a month after filming the pilot episode for their television series, the second recording session for The Monkees was held today to refine the slow version of “I Wanna Be Free” with Davy Jones on vocals and and the song’s co-writer Tommy Boyce (with Bobby Hart) on acoustic guitar.
They will record a total of ten tracking takes and two overdub takes.
The first “Monkees” recording session had been held one week before at Eldorado Recording Studio in Hollywood with the same goal as today’s session. 17 takes were recorded on Dec. 10, 1965, but another session was scheduled for today to tighten the performance.
