(Tuesday, February 16, 1926)Margot Frank, the elder daughter of Otto Frank and Edith Frank and the elder sister of Anne Frank, was born Margot Betti Frank today in Frankfurt, Germany.

Named after her maternal aunt Bettina Holländer (1898–1914), Margot’s deportation order from the Gestapo hastened the Frank family into hiding eight years after the family moved to Amsterdam to escape the anti-Semitic Nazi regime.

According to the diary of her younger sister, Anne, Margot kept a diary of her own, but no trace of it has ever been found.

Less than a year after the Frank family was arrested in 1944, Margot died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp at age 19 from a typhus outbreak.
