Sukarno yields powers to army to curb unrest 60 years ago this hour (Mar 11 1966)

(Friday, March 11, 1966, at about 7:00 p.m. West Indonesia Time) — The “Transition to the New Order” took place tonight in Indonesia when President Sukarno signed a document that effectively surrendered nearly all of his powers to his Defense Minister, General Suharto, leaving Sukarno as the nominal head of state but only a figurehead.
