(Wednesday, October 10, 1945, 4:01 p.m. CST) — The Detroit Tigers won the 1945 World Series today, beating the Chicago Cubs 9-3 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, in the seventh and deciding game.

It was the second of four World Series titles for the Tigers (1935-1984). It was also the Cubs’ last appearance in the World Series for at least 69 years.
