Video: 'Respect'

(Tuesday, February 14, 1967) — “Respect,” a song written and originally released by American recording artist Otis Redding in 1965, was recorded by R&B singer Aretha Franklin today at Atlantic Records Studio in New York City.

Franklin’s cover was a landmark for the feminist movement and is often considered as one of the best songs of the R&B era, placing number five on Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

(Sunday, February 12, 1967, just after 8:00 p.m. GMT) — British police tonight raided “Redlands,” the English country home of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in West Wittering, West Sussex, following a tip-off about a party from the News of the World.

No arrests were made at the time, but Richards, Rolling Stones’ lead singer Mick Jagger and art dealer Robert Fraser would subsequently be convicted of possession of drugs.
