Never in history had the Senate been able to muster enough votes to cut off a filibuster on a civil rights bill.

(Wednesday June 3, 1964) — Two days after arriving in the U.S. for the first time, The Rolling Stones taped their first national television appearance in America today in Los Angeles for the June 13, 1964, edition of The Hollywood Palace, performing “I Just Want to Make Love to You.”

They also performed “Not Fade Away” for the Sept. 12, 1964, edition of the program.

The Stones had debuted on American television the night before (June 2) on The Les Crane Show, which aired only in New York City.
