(Friday, August 4, 1972) — Arthur Bremer was convicted and sentenced today in Upper Marlboro, Md., to 63 years in prison for his attempt on the life of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate George Wallace. The governor of Alabama was shot on May 15, 1972, in Laurel, Maryland, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down for life.
